it fucking rules

Whelp, I bought a guitar. It’s the guitar I’ve always wanted, a red Gibson SG, standard 61 reissue. It fucking rules. It ran me about 1600$ after the breathy-voiced lady at Guitar Center gave me a 270$ discount for no apparent reason. So much for those zero dollar days.

I’m very happy with it, and am looking forward to playing it over the Winter break.

I had said I wouldn’t make any big purchases till the van was paid off, but I want to be learning an instrument, and this is a good one. I have a Fender Strat a good buddy gave me, but the Floyd-Rose bridge makes it tricky to tune, and there were days that I wanted to play, but was discouraged by knowing I’d have to tune that beast. I’ll keep the Fender for sure and still play it, but I got the SG with the simple stop bar so I can keep the maintenance easy.

I’m inspired again to get back to my own work every day. Math and music. And a bit of writing, likely here.

I’m back to only going out once a month to refill my prescription (for hypothyroidism) and get a months worth of groceries. (I bought the guitar over the phone, and picked it up via contact-less curbside service.) Made my run yesterday, so I’m stocked up. Going to make a roast and an apple pie in the next few days. I’m a slut for gravy. I’ve got my van fridge, a medium sized Dometic, set up in the pantry as a deep-freeze. It’s got lots of frozen fruit and veggies, and a fair amount of veggie meat and animal meat, including a bunch of smoked salmon that same friend sent me from CA. Had peppered, smoked salmon for lunch.

I’m already wishing I had a pizza, but I got to respect the isolation time right now. It’s mid December of 2020, and the Covid numbers are blowing the fuck up. In my head I often make fun of the “preppers” who couldn’t go 6 weeks without going to Applebee’s or Hooters or whatever, so I gotta not be like them. The Church of the Self-Righteous has a narrow door. Sigh. And, of course, there’s the actual reason to not go outside.

I’m fucking hungry. Still trying to get my BMI down.

Upped my vitamin D intake to 3700 IU’s daily. I also learned that “vitamin” comes from “vital amines,” though vit D isn’t an amine. That’s a neat bit of etymology, regardless.

Time to take my hungry ass to bed.
